A Glimpse From My Journal

One of my cancer buddies passed away last week.  It came as a big surprise.  I thought she was
doing ok.  I am deeply saddened – and frustrated that another person has passed that I knew with cancer.   I just
wish people were aware of more choices for their health.

Perhaps all my buddies who have passed from cancer are now my angels from heaven.  Here in a different way to help me
to support my mission and to help inspire others to find a way.

Angels from Heaven must be in my book as a seperate chapter of its own.

What to do when things change…

For anyone on a cancer journey, you know “dealing with change” better than most people.  If you’re like me, you might find yourself taking a deep breath each time your scan date rolls around.

We all know the big question… what will they say?

I find it’s not so much what a scan reveals, it’s all in how I respond to the information.  This is the key!

Typically, if the information is “good” I breathe a deep sigh of relief followed by a little prayer of gratitude.  And if it’s not so good…???  Then what?

Here is where you must take a step back, breathe and become centered within yourself.  The choice you make right here in this moment is HUGE.  You must learn how to dance with fear.

If you find yourself feeling stressed, worried or even fearful with any kind of news, you need to take a “time out” and breathe.  Step away from the situation and remind yourself of what you know to be true.  Remind yourself that you are ALIVE in this moment and that your body knows how to heal.  Dig deep within yourself and find the place within where you can return to a sense of peace and calm.

Know that things can change at any given time.  And that you can and will make the best decision for yourself in terms of the next step.  Take time to tune into your Heart and ask for Wisdom.  Use your intuitive Heart to guide you.  Never give in to fear, doubt or uncertainty.

It’s ok to acknowledge those feelings however do not dwell in them.  Think of it like this… Imagine any fear or doubt was like a little child afraid of the storm.  Imagine holding that little child and sending that child messages of love and safety so that their fear transforms into love and comfort and feelings of calm and peace.

Here is a short exercise I developed many years ago that you can do right now to embrace all your feelings and to discover the best source of Love – self Love!  You will be amazed when you do this simple process.

 The Mind-Heart Integration Process

  1. Think of your problem or challenge
  2. Feel the feeling that you have as you think about this problem,
    imagine you are in the thick of it…
  3. Close your eyes and imagine this feeling to be a little child
  4. Ask this child to tell you how he or she is feeling
    listen with love and compassion from your Heart
  5. See yourself bringing this little child close to your Heart in a loving
    embrace—a gentle hug
  6. Within yourself send this little child messages of love and reassurance
    love this little child.  Let this little child know you love him or her, you are there for him or her  and that you understand how he or she is feeling and that everything is  going to be alright…Say these words as you hold this child close to your Heart

  Thank you…   I’m Sorry…   I forgive…   I love you

  1. Place your right hand over your Heart and the other hand over the front part of your head and breathe deeply into this moment…Allowing your mind to integrate into your loving Heart…

 

Breathe deeply and know that all is well in this moment…

Bring this little child with you from this moment forward into whatever you do and where ever you go
Staying connected to your inner child is a wonderful way to stay present with your feelings.

Proper nutrition is essential if you want to heal cancer.  There is plenty of research showing the link between pH and cancer.

Cancer thrives in an acidic environment, and doesn’t survive in a normal, more alkaline environment. Cancer cells make your body even more acidic as they produce lactic acid. So if you have cancer, your pH levels are low and your body is too acidic.

Taking action to make your body more alkaline is vital in the battle against cancer.  The majority of the foods and drinks we consume are acidic, such as meat, grains and sugar, with colas, soft drinks and coffee being highly acidic. So unless you have been eating a very healthy diet, full of fresh fruit and vegetables, your body is way too acidic… creating a very good environment for cancer to grow in.

Actually, too much acidity is an underlying factor in many degenerative diseases — diabetes, arthritis, fibromyalgia and more.  Most Holistic professionals and Medical experts agree that Balancing the bio terrain is key. Do this first, then everything can come back to normal.

As you learn about pH and cancer, you will find there is a long history of reversing cancer simply by alkalinizing the body. It is one of the basic strategies in the battle against cancer and for improving your health in general.

Virtually everyone with cancer has low pH levels. This is because cancer is created, and thrives, in a body that has low pH levels, a body that is acidic. Low pH causes your body to store more toxins in cells, and reduces oxygen levels, both of which are fundamental to the development of cancer. When cancer cells grow, they produce even more acid. Making it very difficult to raise pH levels, especially when cancer is present.

When you take something to increase pH levels, your cells notice the
difference and start to dump some of the toxins they are holding back into the bloodstream now that they have a chance to get rid of them. (Toxins are acidic and the cells won’t release them if the blood is too acidic. The blood must be kept in a narrow range around neutral pH.)

The Alkaline Diet

The alkaline diet greatly reduces the acid load, helping to reduce the strain on the body’s acid-detoxification systems, such as the kidneys.

I Want To Live

About 4 years ago my world abruptly came to a stand still when  I was told I had 4th stage ovarian cancer.  Everything in my life was put on hold so that my dedicated focus could be on regaining my health.

What I’ve learned during my 4 year journey was life-changing to say the least.  The kind of lessons you just can’t get from anything other than a life threatening dis-ease.

The Real Lessons

From my partner Paul’s perspective, it wasn’t really the cancer that was the issue.  It was about what each of us felt on the inside about life itself.  In other words, our own personal connection to the life force and a desire to live (rather than the fear of dying).

From the moment I received the diagnosis I knew I wanted to live more than anything.  This is a critical time on one’s journey with cancer.  I believe it becomes necessary to make a most important decision.  That being to live rather than to fear dying.

My inner talk, my daily mantra, became “I want to live!” rather than “I don’t want to die”.  There is a big difference.  May your montra be “I want to live”.

Finding The Gift

The first major lesson was to find the gift.  Instead of focusing on the cancer and its negative effects on my body and my life, I looked for the deeper gifts within the dis-ease, in the daily events (going to the clinic, meeting new people, improvements in blood scores, etc) and deep within myself.

I learned how to transcend the worst news one could possibly here.  Instead of becoming a “cancer patient”, I decided to be a “cancer pioneer” and defy all the odds.  I decided to LIVE and be grateful for every new day and look for the gifts.

How interesting, one of the worst events that can happen in a person’s life actually held deeper gifts than I ever imagined. Simply incredible.

How To Deal With Fear

If there’s one thing that can weave havoc in your life, it’s fear.  When the mind drops into a fear response, and it hears the word “tumor” or “cancer” the brain kicks into a fight or flight syndrome and begins to send a cascade of negative hormones and stressors that can often create an even worse situation.

Once you feel any fear about a piece of news (health, finances, loved one, or your own inner self talk) you actually encode life depleting energy into your cells, tissues, organs, blood and energy system of your entire body.

Always send yourself “good information” life enhancing information.

The Lesson of Gratitude

How do you feel gratitude when you are knee deep in a cancer journey?  First and foremost… I set an intent that I would walk the cancer journey in grace and ease.  That became my prayer.

“May I walk each day in grace and ease”.

Little did I know that that simple shift of mindset would make such a profound effect on my life. Literally every event on my cancer journey was sprinkled with Gratitude. And it affected me almost every day. My husband and I always found something to be grateful for.  No matter what.

We have the power to change the entire cancer field.  Where we’re going is a new paradigm. A new paradigm of thought, feeling, and Be-ing.

Cancer is NOT a death sentence.  With diligent and focused attention you can survive and even thrive.  It all comes down to YOU and how you choose to live each day.

I choose to be grateful first and foremost for my life.  I choose to see and Know that I am healthy.  I choose to see the gift within my journey and to open to the lessons I am being given.

I am ALIVE and I am grateful.

Opening To The Uncertainty of Life

How to be ok with loss

Loss is an interesting part of life.  We can experience loss in many different ways.  We can experience loss in the loss of a loved one, the loss of a role (ie mother, daughter, wife), loss of a job, the loss of our good health and even loss of our connection to who we are, our Essence.cancermiracles14

It’s easy to go along moving through our everyday lives propelled mostly by habit and old patterns that feel comfortable.   We often make much to do about nothing and as a result suffer from it.

Sometimes we can even take parts of our lives for granted.  Never taking time anymore to stop and smell the roses and just BE in the moment.

Until… we or someone dear to us has a serious challenge (like a diagnoses of cancer). Time seems to stand still and we receive a “wake up call” like never before. Suddenly for some of us we see that so much of what occupied our thoughts just isn’t that important anymore.  Our old patterns of the busy mind suddenly feel empty and meaningless.  Our priorities are suddenly rearranged and Life itself becomes our highest value.  Savoring the moment becomes our greatest teacher.

For me my “wake up call” was a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer.  It opened parts of myself I had forgotten about.  It opened my Heart to a deeper capacity to love and care for myself.  Especially during the most vulnerable moments of uncertainty.

It taught me how to dig deep within and find the Truth, my deepest Knowings.
This was especially helpful in those times of uncertainty.  Times of worrisome
scan results, suboptimal blood tests and unending pain gave me the opportunity to stay connected to my Knowings and remain grounded in my Truth.

Personal Note from Susan:  Today I received news of a good friend who passed away.  It brings me great sadness.  And it calls upon my compassion for his loved ones left behind.  It also reminds me to be grateful for every day of my life, my good health and those whom I love.

It helps me breathe into the uncertainty of life with grace and ease.

Secrets of Pure Essential Oils II

Immune Enhancing Properties of Pure Essential Oils

oil drop3The link between cancer and inflammation has been strengthened in recent years.  It is well known that the salicylate in aspirin which have highly anti-inflammatory effects reduce the risk of colon cancer dramatically.

The natural salicylate found in the essential oil of wintergreen is very close in structure to the acetyl salicylic acid found in aspirin.  According to Erica Leibert of Harvard University, wintergreen oil is 40% stronger than an aspirin equivalent with very similar anti-inflammatory properties.

Clove has been researched because of its powerful anti-inflammatory effects.  The biochemical alpha humulene, found in balsam fir essential oil and copaiba essential oil, has all been shown to have significant anti-inflammatory action.

Boswellic acids found in Frankincense gum resin also have powerful anti-inflammatory effects.  Myrrh gum has been studied for its ability to combat various cancers, included breast cancer.

Always Tell Yourself Good Information

cancermiracles9What kind of information are you telling yourself?

What you tell yourself in any moment (especially in a crisis) is critical to your well being.  For me, I took a deep breath when I was given the news of end stage cancer.  It was all so overwhelming and confusing.  When I heard the words “you may have 3-6 months if you are lucky”, I Knew it would be different for me.  I was not willing to allow someone wearing a white coat to tell me if I would live or die.

There is only one ray of Truth in this situation and that is only your Creator knows when it’s your time.  No one else but you and your Creator.  And if you have a strong will to live – you have a great chance of doing just that and more.

And then I heard my Heart speak to me.  My higher Wisdom told me I would be ok.  It was a deep and comforting Wisdom that I call a Knowing.  I heard this powerful message (I’m going to be ok, I will survive, I want to live) the moment I stepped foot out of the doctors office.  This Knowing brought me an inner peace and a calmness to my mind.  It provided love to the little girl inside who was scared.

From that moment forward… my Heart became my guide.  This is the catalyst I speak about that changes every aspect of your life if you’re ready.

 

The Secrets of Essential Oils

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has a scent that’s a wonderful blend of fresh, floral, clean, and calm. Lavender essential oil isn’t just a favorite because of its classic scent—it’s also highly versatile.  I placed a few drop of Lavender daily on my neck to help me relax, feel calm, sleep more deeply and to relieve stress.

Breathing in Lavender became a daily ritual for me.  For times when I had a mild headache, any kind of stress or restless nights, I would use Lavender.  I also often place lavender on my neck just before falling asleep.  It always helps me drift off to sleep in a calm, relaxed state and promotes deeper, restful sleep.

Orange:

Orange is naturally rich in d-limonene.  D-limonene is contained in the peels of citrus fruits such as grapefruit, tangerine, lemon and oranges.  Orange (Citrus sinensis) essential oil has a rich, citrus aroma that calms and relaxes the body and uplifts the mind. The oil may also support normal cellular regeneration.

The fragrance of all citrus oils are believed to induce relaxation and reduce feelings of occasional sadness. Orange essential oil can encourage positive emotions of peace, happiness, and well-being. Whenever I felt sick from various treatments, my husband would rub a few drops of orange essential oil on the bottom of my feet.  There are certain points on the bottom of your feet that are called Vita-Flex points.    Any ill feelings associated with treatment would be gone in 10 minutes or less.

Just add a drop to your water or diffuse orange essential oil for an emotional lift! Either way, orange oil is a welcome addition to home or work!

If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with cancer you will want to consider eating a 90 % Alkaline diet.

 

Cancer cells thrive in acidity (low pH), but not in alkalinity (high pH), so a diet high in alkaline foods like fruits and vegetables that also limits acidic foods, such as those from animal products, will raise blood pH levels and create an environment in the body that discourages cancer growth.

Whether a food is considered “acidic” or “alkaline” depends on its pH value (measured on a 14-point scale). A pH of seven is considered neutral, with foods below seven considered more acidic and foods above seven considered more alkaline.

Alkaline foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes and root vegetables are all broken down into short-chain fatty acids that contain probiotic nutrients that nourish good bacteria in your gut.  These good bacteria help decrease inflammation throughout your body that might otherwise contribute to cancer, while foods such as refined sugar and flour, as well as too much saturated animal fat, create an acidic environment in your gut because they’re difficult to digest,

Scientific studies have shown how limiting the intake of food has extended the human lifespan, brought about freedom from most diseases such as heart disease and cancer, and extended reproductive life.  Over-consumption of food (especially certain kinds) is a prime cause of many of our modern ills.   The Chinese suggest “Eat til you are two thirds full”.

An overburdened digestive system becomes sluggish and is unable to keep up with normal detoxification and elimination. Cultivating the habit of stopping before we are full and ensuring we eat sufficient foods high in Qi i.e. fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains will support the health of the digestive system.

Simply upgrading the quality of our food, from chemical based to organically grown, from fresh and more local will have the effect of increasing our health, helping us to be more satisfied by eating our food and therefore promote less of a desire to over eat.

Timing of Food Intake
Research has shown that the habit of eating breakfast provides us the best chance of regulating our weight, avoiding diabetes and managing our energy levels through the day.  Studies have also shown that the timing, quantity and quantity of dinner affects weight management – lighter and earlier dinners best support the regulation of weight.

A good reminder is to eat a hearty breakfast, a lighter lunch and an even lighter dinner.  In fact, you might want to try avoiding eating after dark. Remember, the digestive system is most active during the morning hours and least active during the night time.

The Qi of Food
When we ingest our food we are also taking in the qi of the food.  Consider who cooked or prepared your food and what kind of energy went into the meal preparation.  My partner and I have held week long healing retreats in Hawaii for many years.  We found a personal chef who prepares and serves all our meals with love and kindness.  She carefully chooses the organic farms from which the ingredients come from and she blesses every step of her meal preparation and serving.  Her qi imprint as well as the farmers that grow the food can be felt in the art of her meal preparations.

The Power of Qi To Heal

cancermiraclesThere are many different kinds of energies.  According to the Chinese Grand Masters Qi (chi)  is one specific kind of energy.  It happens to be considered by the Chinese as the purest and most powerful kind of energy. Every one and every thing is made up of Qi.

Qi means breath, energy or air.  It is the energetic fluid that vitalizes the body, Nature and all living things.  Qi gives life to all beings.  Qi vibrates in constant energetic motion within all things and is considered the bridge between matter and spirit.

Human qi comes from two main sources. The first source of qi is inherited from our parents at conception. It is known as the embryonic (qi) vital life force. The second source is derived from essential substances in Nature such as Universal Qi, the air we breathe, the food we eat and water.  Both kinds of qi serve to enhance and balance our organs, blood, and whole body to create optimal health and well being.

Embryonic Qi

The kidney first sends the embryonic vital life force upwards where it combines with the essence of the spleen. It further mixes with the fresh air from the lungs where it finally forms into the qi of the body.

From the study of physics, we know that all energy carries information.  Through a practice of qi gong, we consciously draw information from the Universal Qi Field.  With conscious intent, the information is healthy and life enhancing.

What Is Qi Gong

The word Qi Gong (pronounced “chi gung”) is made up of two Chinese words.  Qi meaning the life force or vital energy that flows through all things in the Universe.  Gong meaning accomplishment or skill that is cultivated through steady practice.  Qi Gong is a system designed to cultivate and balance life energy for optimal health.  It is believed that the art of qi gong was first noted 2—5 thousand years ago.  However, many Chinese archeologists say that the science is much older than that.

The early Shamans in China recognized there was a force in the Universe, within Nature, and within themselves that could be harnessed and cultivated for improving their well being. They called this force

They believed qi was the most fundamental entity making up everything in life.  They thought everything in the Universe resulted from the movement, flow and change of qi.  They considered qi to be the vital force energy of all life.

By cultivating the force within (qi) and without (Universal qi) they believed such a practice would enhance their mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health.  Through the practice of meditation, various exercises, certain gentle movements, breathing practices, and visualization, they realized they could change their life force, promote healing, be healthier and live longer. This is the origin of Qi Gong.

Qi Gong has a spiritual element also due to its use of qi.  Some have considered qi to be “the breath of God”.  The Bible states that God breathed life into man (1:30, Psalm 104:29), and that God’s breath caused the Universe (Psalm 33:6).  When the wind blows and the oceans ripple, the earth is breathing.  Her breath is the Universal Qi.

As a Spiritual practice, Qi Gong originated from Taoism and Buddhism and therefore it increases self-awareness, higher wisdom, peace, joy and inner harmony.  The practice of Qi Gong involves gentle movements along with deep rhythmic breathing and conscious Intent.  It is said that qi is gathered with the inhalation as we breathe.  Once gathered, it expands within and settles downward throughout the body.   As we breathe out with the exhalation, we return the stagnant qi back to the Source, thus practicing what the Chinese call “Circulating Qi”.

Some of the ways Qi Gong can be used is to move the qi internally to promote optimal health and healing.  It can also be used to connect with and draw upon Universal qi in order to balance both internal and external qi, release negative life depleting qi and cultivate positive life enhancing qi.
All with the Intent of creating balance and harmony within and without.

The HunYuan Qi

Universal Qi is also called The Hunyuan Qi (“life force”) and refers to the primal Qi of Nature.   It is found within everything, it exists everywhere, and provides an infinite source of nourishment and energy for all life.  The Hunyuan Qi is an energy, a life force, that can be cultivated.

Human consciousness is able to harness The Hunyuan Qi (primal Qi of  Nature) by gathering, absorbing and processing it.  Where the mind goes, the qi will follow.  When human qi is full and balanced, all aspects of the body develop normally, disease is eliminated, health is restored and the Heart opens to higher Wisdom and Divine Love.

Qi Stagnation

When the internal qi gets stuck, stagnates, or becomes out of balance we become sick. When it is in balance and flows freely we live healthy, joyful and peaceful lives.

Stuck qi or qi stagnation can be caused by a number of things.  One of the main causes is emotional imbalance. The imbalance is either due to unresolved and or suppressed emotions.  Emotions cause problems when they are blocked or inappropriately channeled.  When we make peace with our emotions the qi flows and we achieve balance and harmony within.

Emotions are meant to flow.  One of the best books I ever read was called “Feelings Buried Alive Never Die” by Carol Truman.  It reminds us of the importance of making peace with all our emotions in order to achieve balance and harmony within.

There is much to be learned by understanding the effects emotions have on energy flow within the body.  Individual emotions will effect the energy flow in different ways.  Anger and stress will cause energy to stagnate and tax the liver.  Prolonged anger can also cause the kidneys to weaken.
Prolonged frustration taxes the gall bladder.  Extended periods of grief, loss and deep sadness weakens the lungs.  Anxiety damages the blood.
